"You're Building Worlds, That Don't Exist..."

Do you ever MAKE UP conversations with other people inside your head?

Like you’re REHEARSING what you think is about to happen?

I do this ALL. THE. TIME!

It’s so FRUSTRATING because, for me, 9 out of 10 times, these scenes play out in a negative direction. And then I FEEL all the negative emotions about something I just made up! WTF?!

In my head people betray me, don’t care about me or respect me. I get very hurt and upset by these internal movies.

Another problem is, most of the time, these dress rehearsals eventually PLAY OUT IN REAL LIFE. Maybe not the exact way, but usually the storyline is similar.

It’s as if the feelings from these made up stories get carried over into real life and projected on to others.

So I use my awareness to NOTICE when I go into my fantasy world.

If I can RECOGNIZE what I am doing, then I can CHANGE what I am doing.

If I am fighting with someone in my mind then I take a deep breath, recognize this is NOT REALITY and then I send that person love.

This stops the negative thought/feeling cycle in its tracks.

I also use of my favorite lines from one of my favorite songs to help me remember,

“You're building worlds, that don't exist. Imagination sometimes plays, the worst tricks.” ~ The Poozies
