We're All Basically Appliances.

My first thought when I saw the above sign on an electric cart at the grocery store was, “I NEED one of those!”

Imagine, what if we all had a sign to wear when we needed to recharge? 🪫

Sometimes it feels like I logically know when my internal battery is low, but that doesn’t stop me from saying yes. It doesn’t stop me from pushing to be PRODUCTIVE.  It doesn’t stop me from scrolling instead of SLEEPING. It doesn't stop me from crossing my own boundaries to PEOPLE-PLEASE

Wouldn’t a sign be SO much easier?!

We all know what happens to appliances when they’re not charged, but for some reason, we don’t apply this to HUMANS. But, as we work our way through winter, with all the hussle and bustle of the holidays, remember, you’re basically an APPLIANCE. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yup.

That's right.

Right there with your air fryer and toaster.

Just like appliances, we can’t run on endless energy forever. We're not cute, pink bunnies who scoot around banging a drum all day. We  need to “plug in” with quality sleep, nourishing foods, alone time, fulfilling social time, reading, laughing, gratitude, taking supplements/medication regularly, outdoor time, exercise, hygiene, meditation, etc.

If you read my last post, I shared about how draining and emotional this time of year can be for me and others. But, on the flip side of my electronics analogy, if we look around, we'll see the Northern Hemisphere naturally SLOWING DOWN this time of year.

Trees expel their leaves to conserve energy, animals crawl into burrows to sleep, days are shorter and nights are longer. There is a natural ebb and flow to life.

Seasons change which means, feelings change, foods change, energy levels change, creative flow changes.

For me, understanding the natural cycles of the earth has helped me find compassion toward myself when I need a little extra downtime and rest this time of year.

So next time, you go to plug in your phone, table or computer, take a moment and think,

“What is something I can do to PLUG ME IN, too?”
