Where’s Your Happy Place?
When I think of my happy place, I imagine my childhood camp in Colorado that I attended for eight years.
I picture a bright blue sky setting a backdrop to perfectly puffy clouds, looking so close you can touch them. I see snow covered peaks and rushing rivers.
I feel SAFE and COMFORTABLE here.
In my mind's eye, I also see the 5-year-old version of myself running through the open pastures, excited to see the horses on the other side of the fence.
It’s somewhere I can go mentally when I’m feeling stressed, tired and my inner child needs a safe place to land.
In therapy, when working through trauma with clients, we often establish a
safe place so when feelings are overwhelming, they can visualize somewhere peaceful as a way to ground and to remember that they’re ok.
Because you ARE ok.
So this week’s invitation is for you to create your own safe place in your mind!
Now, I get it can be hard to do a visualization based on reading an email, so I have created a short guided meditation video for you to follow along with at the bottom of the page.
Or you can follow the instructions below:
Begin by closing your eyes and taking a few deep breaths.
Then, bring to mind somewhere, real or imagery, that is beautiful and safe.
Then add in details. What's the weather like? What are the smells around you? Is there a structure like a cabin, a fort or a house?
After the scene is set, bring to mind anything that helps your inner child feel safe, comfortable and relaxed. Maybe it's pillows and blankets, or books and a fireplace. Maybe it's an endless supply of ice cream and snacks!
Whatever it is, SOAK in the feeling.
BREATHE into it.
Let your body FEEL into how it is to be in a safe place specifically designed by your inner child's requests.
So, how does that feel? I hope you like it! And as always, I am here for any questions or feedback you might have. 🙏
