Peek Behind the Curtain Wk 4
You know that feeling in life when you're going through something and you think that you’re all alone in it?
That nobody has ever experienced this same exact thing before?
That nobody could possibly relate or understand, or maybe that even if you tried to explain it, the words wouldn’t come out right?
At some point in our lives, we all feel this way.
And to some extent, it’s true.
Nobody will ever know exactly what you’ve been through. Nobody will ever know exactly what it’s like to be in your shoes and to feel the emotions the same exact way you do.
But deep down, we all crave that kind of understanding.
Think about it 🤔
You know that feeling when someone really gets you, there’s nothing better!
We look for that in romantic partners, friendships, and these days, people even turn to AI to get that fix.
But we also read books for this same reason.
Because when you read words on a page that were written by someone else, they can hit you right in that soft place in your heart, and that’s connection.
And that’s what I want readers to take away from my book.
Not because they’ll resonate with every single detail— I know they won’t.
But because the themes are universal.
Themes like wanting to love and be loved. Feeling betrayed. Being humbled after doing something ridiculously stupid 🙄
These are all things we can relate to, because we’re human.
And if you think about your own story, you’ll probably notice the same thing.
You may not have words for it in the moment but, later on, you come across someone else’s story and it unlocks something inside of you. Suddenly you’re not so alone anymore.
That’s the power of shared humanity.
And I find that sometimes the hardest chapters of our story are the ones that end up bringing us the deepest connection.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shared a piece of my story with someone and saw a light bulb turn on in them 💡
Next thing I know, they’re telling me something they’re never told anyone else in their life.
But it’s always when sharing the trauma, the heartbreak, the mistakes, the messy parts we wish weren’t there. Those are often the exact pieces that let someone else breathe a little easier and say, “Oh… me too.”
So, when I’m asked this week’s question: “What do you want readers to take away from your story?”
My answer is this: I want people to understand that we all have a story. And that healing from that story is possible, even when it feels impossible. That your story may look different from mine, but we share the same themes.
Also, I want people to see that healing can look many different ways, for different people. It’s not just about doing something once and walking away cured. Healing encompasses the mind, body and soul and I think it’s valuable to see how incorporating all those aspects together can really help you create the life you ultimately want.
Tune in next week for week 5 of Peeking Behind the Curtain where we explore:
What strategies did you implement to work through this trauma and did you have to walk away from your family in order to heal?
