Peeking Behind the Curtain - Wk 2
Welcome back to Week 2 of Peeking Behind the Curtain.
For those just tuning in, for the next few weeks I'll be answering one question per week about my upcoming book, Everything Makes Perfect Sense, out October 14th!
These questions originally came from my publisher for a press release, but I thought you might like to see my answers too.
Question 2:
Your book revolves around self-empowerment, healing, and vulnerability. What inspired you to share your story?
Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted there to be a book about my life. I knew what I was going through wasn’t normal, and something inside me felt it would matter to share it one day. At 10 years old, I imagined I’d become a famous actress and someone would write an autobiography about me 😆
But as life unfolded, I found myself on a very different path– one of healing, becoming a therapist, and supporting others on their own journeys. Somewhere along the way, it became clear that I needed to write my story.
I wanted to show that while I went through some really hard things, I was in control of my life. My life hadn’t been “taken away” by the people who hurt me. In fact, the more I healed, the more I could embrace all parts of myself (the good, the bad and the ugly) and genuinely love the life I'd created. And that’s what I want for everyone else too, which is why sharing felt like the natural next step 💜
Ready for question 3?
You write about such hard topics such as sexual and emotional abuse, addiction and body hatred. What about the writing process was the most challenging and what surprised you the most during the process?
See you next week!
