Most of us are taught that forgiveness is something you grant to someone else.

At least that's what my mom told me when she was trying to convince me to forgive the person who'd hurt me the most.

But I kept asking myself — what about me? What about my hurt? My pain?

I couldn't find a definition that felt right, so I created my own.

I call it Modern Day Forgiveness: a non-religious, intentional process of releasing and letting go — entirely for the person who's been harmed.

Finally, forgiveness for you - not them.
