She Had Never Told Anyone- Until Now
Just yesterday, a good friend confided something big to me.
She told me something she had never told anyone before.
(And before you freak out—yes, she gave me full permission to share this with you.)
Now, I’m not going to spill the exact details, but I will say this: it was something that had haunted her for most of her life.
But this friend? She’s not your average Jane.
She’s someone who’s done years of deep, intentional work on herself. She’s excavated old patterns, rewritten belief systems, and devoted the last few years to living as her most authentic, unapologetic self.
(Which, by the way, is exactly why I adore my friends.)
So when she came to me with this part of herself—this tender, shame-filled story—and trusted me to hold it, I felt deeply honored.
And why now? Why this moment?
She said, “Brinn, you’ve spoken so shamelessly about the hard stuff in your past... you made me feel like I could finally speak about mine.”
YOU GUYS. 😭
This. This is what I live for!
Creating space for people to be their full selves—to bring even the most painful, shame-soaked parts into the light.
Because I believe that is how we find freedom.
Now don’t get me wrong: just because we acknowledge those parts doesn’t mean we let them drive the bus.
It’s not about handing over the wheel.
Let me explain.
It’s like a squeaky wheel.
If we ignore it, pretend it’s not there, it’ll keep bugging us forever.
But when we pause, acknowledge the squeak, and give it the oil it needs? We get to move forward in peace. 🕊️
And that’s exactly what happened.
At the end of our conversation, she said, “I’ve been carrying this heavy burden around for so long… but after sharing it with you, I feel so much lighter.”
That’s what authenticity does.
That’s what being truly heard does.
It reminds me of one of my all-time favorite quotes:
“Being heard is so close to being loved that for the average person, they are almost indistinguishable.”
– David W. Augsburger
This is why the work I do is so sacred to me.
Because when someone feels safe enough to be heard, they begin to feel loved.
And when they feel loved, especially in their darkest moments?
That’s putting oil on the squeaky wheel. 💜
